Course Overview:
Mastering sail trim is one of the most effective ways to improve your boat’s performance, and it all starts with a solid foundation in theory. Join us for this dockside clinic designed for sailors who want to understand how and why sails behave the way they do — and how to fine-tune them for changing conditions.
What You'll Learn:
• The principles of sail shape and how draft, twist, and depth affect performance
• The role of key trim controls including outhaul, halyard tension, Cunningham, boom vang, and traveler
• How to read telltales and what they reveal about airflow and trim efficiency
• How headsail and mainsail interact — balancing power and minimizing helm
• Trim techniques for different wind conditions (light air vs heavy breeze)
Ideal For:
• Sailors looking to sharpen their understanding of trim fundamentals
• Crew members who want to contribute more actively
This clinic emphasizes hands-on discussion and real-world rig inspection — all aboard a sailboat, but comfortably docked. No sailing experience required for this session, just a willingness to learn and ask questions.
