Owner Assisted Sailboat Deliveries

Owner assisted deliveries are available for those who wish to take part in the delivery of their sailboat along with a professional captain and crew. This is a great way to get to know a new boat and gain experience and confidence in sailing, with the added benefit of a captain that is also a certified sailing instructor.

For Owners that do not have the allowed time to assist in the entire delivery, we welcome you to hop aboard for part of the trip.

Although not required, if you desire to progress through the American Sailing program, our captains can work with you to qualify you to an ASA certification level while on passage.

Owner Information & Expectations (FAQs):

Pre-Departure Day
This is a paid day as the Captain and Crew will be completing an inspection of your sailboat and expectations of the passage. You will find our pre-departure checklist in the above Delivery Forms section.

Captain/Mate Travel
Paid by Owner. All reasonable travel expenses (airfare, car rental/Uber/taxi services, etc) to your sailboat location and the return trip home.

Provisions (Food & Drink)
Paid by Owner. All reasonable travel provision expenses while underway (cooking/drinks while aboard). Expect $15-20 per person, per day.

Inclimate Weather/Conditions
Weather is typically the reason departures are delayed. Our delivery agreement allows for up-to four (4) days of unpaid "weather days". Beyond four days a $35 per diem is paid to the Captain and Mate (if needed).

Sailboat Related
Paid by Owner. All sailboat related purchases such as, but not limited to, fuel, docking/mooring, parts, maintenance, etc.

Owner Payment Expectations
Option 1:
A 50% deposit deducted from the estimated delivery costs, including wages and travel expenses for the Captain and Mate (if needed), provisioning for the passage, fuel costs (if needed), and expected marina/mooring costs (if needed), will be paid along with a signed sailboat delivery contract to confirm the delivery agreement.

Option 2:
A 50% deposit deducted from the estimated delivery costs, including wages and travel expenses for the Captain and Mate (if needed) will be paid along with a signed sailboat delivery contract to confirm the delivery agreement. A boat owner's credit card, either mailed to the Captain or left available on the boat, will used for all additional costs related to the delivery, including, but not limited to, provisioning for the passage, fuel costs, and marina/mooring costs.

Final Payment
Upon arrival to destination a final invoice will be created including all wages, travel, provisioning, other delivery-related expenses (including all receipts), and any other "out-of-pocket" boat/delivery-related expenses the Captain incurred, and minus the agreed upon previously paid deposit for the final payment.
