What to Expect

Non-Liveaboard Courses

Each day will begin at 9am and end around 4 - 5 pm.

Meals While Aboard
Please pack a quick lunch, such as a sandwich, sub, or wrap. You may also bring snacks and beverages. There will be bottled waters and chips aboard.

Required to Bring

  • Foul weather gear - Seasonal rain jacket with hood, and possible rain pants, water-proof boots or shoes, if climate dictates. Check with Defender, West Marine or equivalent.
  • Deck/tennis shoes
  • Personal and sea-sickness medicines

Recommended to Bring (season and course dependent)

  • Warm Layers - Fleece or similar, long underwear
  • Warm Sweatshirt, Coat, or Jacket
  • Gloves for warmth
  • Warm hat/beanie/toboggan
  • Sailing gloves
  • Hat with brim
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen

No Smoking While Aboard
No Recreational Drugs Allowed Aboard

Liveaboard Courses

Each day will begin at 9am and end around 4 - 5 pm.

Pack light. Students tend to bring more than they need. A small to medium size duffel bag for clothes/foul weather gear will suffice.

Meals While Aboard
All 104 and 106 courses include meals aboard. Meals not aboard, if chosen, such as eating at a restaurant at Bald Head Island, are not included in the cost of the course.

Required to Bring

  • Headlamp with white and red lighting (ASA 106)
  • Re-usable water bottle
